Description
An exceptionally rare late 19th-century Judaica volume on the laws of Jewish ritual slaughter (Shechita) and the inspection of the lungs (Bedikat ha-Re’ah), titled “Siwche Schlomim”.
Originally compiled in catechetical (question-and-answer) form by Rabbi Jakob Beck, who served as Dayan (rabbinical judge) in Leipnik, Germany, the book provides a systematic and practical guide to the halachic (Jewish legal) principles of kosher slaughter according to Ashkenazic tradition.
This 1899 edition was revised, expanded, and annotated by Dr. Selig Gronemann (1843–1918), the esteemed Landrabbiner (Chief Rabbi) of Hanover. Gronemann added new German commentary and supplementary material addressing contemporary developments in Jewish ritual practice. Dr. Gronemann was known for his halachic scholarship, leadership in German Jewish education, and as an advocate for modern rabbinical training and community organization.
The book was printed by A. J. Hofmann Verlag, a Frankfurt publishing house known for its high-quality Jewish religious and scholarly works of the late 19th century.
