Description

An extraordinary primary document detailing the early 20th-century history of the South American Orthodox rabbinate, issued on the official bilingual stationery of the Chief Rabbinate of Uruguay.

  • Overview: A fully handwritten and signed official community document written by the Chief Rabbi of Uruguay, dated June 13, 1935 (13/VI de 1935 / כ"א סיון תרצ"ה).
  • The Author: Rabbi Chaim Spector (מרן הגאון רבי חיים ספקטור זצ"ל), the universally revered Chief Rabbi (Gran Rabino / הרב הכולל) of Montevideo, Uruguay (אורוגוואי). He was a seminal builder of Torah institutions, kashrut, and community frameworks across South America.
  • Content & Markings: The letter is written in a beautiful, dense traditional rabbinic script and is addressed to the central Vaad HaKlali (General Committee) in Jerusalem. It features Spector’s official circular ink authorization stamp at the bottom left ("J. Spector – Gran Rabino – Montevideo"), along with an official blue Jerusalem archive registration stamp (מספר 64/1573) dated August 1935.
  • The Chazon Ish & Karlitz Dynasty Connection (Collectors Highlight): Rabbi Chaim Spector’s lineage is directly intertwined with the absolute pinnacle of the Lithuanian and Israeli Torah royalty. His grandson and namesake, the brilliant scholar Rabbi Chaim Spector, famously married into the illustrious Karlitz family, linking this branch directly as a brother to the supreme halachic leader of the generation, מרן החזון איש (Rabbi Avraham Yeshayahu Karlitz). Pieces binding South American rabbinic history to the inner circle of Bnei Brak’s leadership carry an immense premium.
