Description

An outstanding and highly sought-after 19th-century rabbinic work serving as a primary cornerstone in modern Jewish intellectual methodology and yeshiva history.

  • The Work & Author: Sefer Chotam Tochnit (ספר חותם תכנית) is the brilliant, seminal work of Rabbi Yitzchak Yaakov Reines (הגאון רבי יצחק יעקב ריינס זצ"ל). Rav Reines was one of the absolute giants of the Lithuanian rabbinate, serving as Av Beit Din of Švenčionys (שווינציאן) and Lida, and immortalized as the revolutionary founder of the modern Lida Yeshiva and the religious Mizrachi movement.
  • Historical Significance: Published in Mainz by the famous press of J. Brill, Chotam Tochnit was the book that shook the rabbinic world by introducing a completely new, scientific, and highly organized logical framework to Talmudic analysis and homiletics. It remains a masterwork of Jewish thought.
  • Rabbinic Provenance: The title page features a bold, genuine contemporary blue ink rabbinic ownership signet stamp reading: "משרד הרה"ג… הרב יוסף שטרן" (The Office of Rabbi Yosef Stern), offering an exceptional link to an elite European rabbinic family heritage.
  • Notable Connection — The Builder of Lida: This volume represents the ultimate seed of what would become the world-famous Lida Yeshiva. Rav Reines’ philosophy of integrating sophisticated traditional Talmudic rationale with absolute systemic organization, as laid out in this exact 1880 edition, transformed modern Torah education forever.
