An original handwritten letter by Rabbi Shalom Yitzchak HaCohen Sternberg, the prominent Dayan and Moreh Tzedek of the Orthodox community in Antwerp, Belgium.

  • The Author: Rabbi Shalom Yitzchak Sternberg was a central rabbinic figure in pre-war Belgium. He is most famous for his monumental halakhic work Birkat Shalom (Antwerp, 1930), which dealt extensively with the establishment of the Antwerp Eruv, referencing discussions with leading Torah giants of the era such as the Admor of Sochatchov and Rabbi Meir Shapiro of Lublin.
  • Content of the Letter: The letter is addressed to the "Great and Famous Rabbis, " notifying them of a donation he is facilitating. He writes: "I am sending to your honors for the Yeshiva the sum of 2 ½ Pounds Sterling…" He concludes with an outpouring of warm, poetic blessings for abundant life, goodness, and eternal salvation.
  • Format & Signature: The document features his official bilingual ink stamp: "שלום יצחק הכהן שטערנבערג / דיין ומ"צ דק"ק אנטווערפען / Rabbi STERNBERG, Antwerpen / Lowerikstr 47". Below the text, he signs his name in his distinctive cursive handwriting.

Details: The paper is intact with clear, bold black ink that is completely legible. There are minor, standard signs of aging, including light original fold lines from mailing, minor edge wear, and faint uniform toning to the paper. The rabbi\'s blue ink stamp is crisp and highly defined.
