Author: Rabbi Elimelech Alter Paneth (רבי אלימלך אלתר פאנעט) of Dej-Brooklyn (1902–1963). He was the son of Rabbi Yechezkel Paneth (the Knesses Yechezkel) and the grandson of Rabbi Yosef Paneth (the Vayaged Yosef).


  • Content: This significant handwritten letter is addressed to the management of Kolel Ahavat Tzion (Kollel Chibat Tzion / כולל חבת ציון) in Jerusalem. The text discusses administrative and charitable affairs, specifically the distribution of funds for the welfare of the community in the Holy Land.
  • Format: The letter is written on the inner side of a vintage United States Air Mail aerogramme. This unique "letter-envelope" hybrid features a 10c Air Mail stamp and a postmark from Brooklyn, NY.

Notable Connection: A survivor of the Bergen-Belsen camp and the famous Kastner train, Rabbi Elimelech Alter Paneth (רבי אלימלך אלתר פאנעט) was the primary figure responsible for transplanting and rebuilding the Dej Chassidic dynasty in the United States after the Holocaust.
